Phrygian and Lydian patterns are identical. Lydian starts on the different degree of the scale.

lydian and mixolydian are the same, except lydian starts on the 4th scale degree, whereas mixolydian starts on the 5th scale degree. look closely at the picture - although the two look similar, they're actually two different patterns.

hey Walt,

is your image wrong? you've written Lydian is the equal to Mixolydian. but i believe its Phrygian & Lydian.

Hey Walt, I have been interested in learning to read music for a while. I can sing but I can't read music. My mom said if I showed her I was devoted to music and learned how to read music, she would help me out with voice/piano lessons. Do you have any tips while learning that would help me? hmm, doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but a lot of that stuff is foreign to me. just play music, and have fun with it. people get all caught up in that stuff, and while I suppose its good to learn, at the end of the day, just play.

Hi Walt!
Ok, I heard that the bars in 4/4 time also follow the strong, weak, medium, weak pattern. So Bar 1 would be stronger than Bar 2. However, I got confused when I was reading a lesson on berkleeshares.com, heres the link:

In it it says that beat 3 of bar two is stronger than beat 3 of bar 1, why is that?
